Data Techniques’ server infrastructure had been in situ for a number of years and the hardware was coming to the end of the manufacturer’s warranty. In addition, the current operating system and licenses were considerably older and were no longer supported by Microsoft. The domain controllers at first site were both running Windows Server 2008 as was one of the domain controllers at the second. The final domain controller at the third site was running Windows 2012 R2. In light of the above Infinity Group proposed the replacement of all existing domain controllers with new hardware and upgrade all operating systems to the latest Windows version.
We replaced all four of the host servers with four HP ProLiant DL360 Gen9 machines. Each had 2 Xeon E5-2630 V4 processers along with 10 cores. They servers have more efficient processors and greater capacity to run the SAN and will accommodate the planned future growth of Data Techniques. We replaced the existing SAN’s with the HP MSA 2040, a high-performance storage array. This next generation solution provides excellent value and support initiatives such as consolidation and virtualization and brings the performance benefits of SSD drives to MSA array. We managed the entire server upgrade process from start to finish and worked out of hours to ensure there was little or no disruption to their services.
The upgrades have been a huge success with all users noting increased speeds which has resulted in them being much more efficient.
In addition to the server upgrade, we installed a Juniper Core switch to manage the other switches and this will also allow for future growth as additional switches can be added to the core switch as and when required.
