Senior IT Projects Consultant

Reporting to: Head of Professional Services

Location: London/Tunbridge Wells office with regular client visits.

The Role

This is a lead role with responsibility for planning and undertaking the technology delivery of small to medium-sized projects, but also required to manage sections of large projects and will have input into the project planning process. You will be required to be the technical escalation point and supervise the work of other Project Consultants or associated Field Engineers in all technical aspects and may work with external consultants to ensure deliverables. You will be the primary responsibility for meeting defined technology business goals as scoped by project objectives. You’ll need to work with the 3rd party suppliers, which involves the agreement, planning, timelines and quality of deliverables. One of the key parts of your role is to enhance the customer’s perception of Infinity Group over the life of the project, keeping the client and senior management appraised of project progress and surrounding issues and routinely to the PMO.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation, installation and maintenance of switches, firewalls, PCs, laptops and tablets.
  • Installation and maintenance of server solutions as per the client’s requirements.
  • Installation & configuration of new backup solutions – Altaro VM Backup and Windows Server Backup
  • Making recommendations for changes or improvements where they would be of benefit to the client.
    Comprehensively updating data stored in IT Glue.
  • Demonstrable experience and capability to manage projects autonomously. Thorough understanding of concepts, procedures and application of project management.
  • Evaluates, sometimes complex situations using multiple sources of information.
  • Projects may involve a higher element of risk to business and require ability to use recognised project management methods and processes, depending on risk profile and governance needs.
  • Third party suppliers may have to managed in terms of selection, deliverables, timelines and budgets.
  • Maintain knowledge of current & new technologies.
  • Providing clearly defined and well documented solution designs.
  • Updating documentation used by the helpdesk for support and preparing handovers
  • Ensuring ConnectWise is kept up to date, with project progress and time spent.
  • Ensuring customer expectations are met.
  • Providing regular feedback to the Project Coordinator
  • Working out of hours where the project requires.
  • Auditing of sites, new or existing.
  • Documenting installed/audited equipment in CRM/IT Glue.

Essential Skills

  • Experience of critical and complex, typically bespoke in elements, technical project delivery and relationship management as defined by the needs of the business, including customer, project team, project suppliers and other affected parties
  • Demonstrable record of ability to innovate to resolve major problems and has a record of getting buy in to radical solutions to resolve issues that threatened to delay or seriously disrupt the project goals (resource, budget or stakeholder in nature)
  • Will have had significant experience of leading and delivering complex projects, requiring management of medium-term and long-term timeframes, major resources and project deliverables
  • Experienced delivery agent with specific experience of delivering to clients directly and delivery of significant and/or time critical
  • Must have developed communication and diplomacy skills with a strong ability to persuade and influence client and stakeholder relationships
  • Ability to have the robust/difficult conversations with customer, third party suppliers and stakeholders

Essential Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of HPE and Dell EMC SAN technologies, design, configuration, implementation and troubleshooting
  • Industry specific qualifications – MCSE or MCPs in at least 2 relevant technologies: Windows Server 2012/2016/2019, Exchange Server 2013/2016/2019, Microsoft 365 Stack, Microsoft Azure
  • In-depth understanding of core Windows Server roles: Active Directory, File Services, Print Services, Remote Desktop Services
  • A good understanding and experience in configuration and management of core Microsoft 365 services and hybrid integrations: Azure Active Directory, Azure AD Connect, Exchange Online, Exchange Hybrid, Microsoft Teams, Sharepoint Online, InTune
  • Comprehensive experience with implementation and management of Microsoft Hyper-V, both stand-alone and clustered solutions, including replication
  • Knowledge of common backup products, implementation, configuration and troubleshooting: Altaro VM Backup, Veeam Backup & replication, Symantec Backup Exec, SolarWinds Backup, Datto Backupify for Office 365, Windows Server Backup/Azure Backup

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with the implementation and management of Citrix would be an advantage
  • Experience working within an MSP environment would be an advantage
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of migration options and methodologies for email and data into both on-premises and cloud solutions (Microsoft 365) via 3rd party tools and hybrid integrations
  • Knowledge of installing, configuring and managing SQL server would be an advantage.
