About Spy Alarms_

Spy Alarms is one of the largest privately owned installers of security systems in the South East, servicing over 75,000 domestic and commercial customers, providing services such as burglar alarms, CCTV, door entry systems and more, along with associated monitoring and maintenance services.

Spy Alarms is a fast-paced, rapidly expanding organisation with ambitious growth plans. They needed to work with a similar agile partner to deliver a minimum viable product (MVP) solution quickly followed by future phases of work.

Their core products are Dynamics 365 Field Service and Dynamics 365 Business Central.

Infinity stood out early in the process as the front runner. My first engagement was efficient, and I got the attention required.

The challenge_

Spy Alarms were operating on an outdated Line of Business (LOB) application to run their operations, capture data, manage scheduling and fulfil field service requirements. The existing system had several limitations which were stifling their growth plans, including:

  • The systems in place couldn’t keep up with the rapidly changing needs of the business; they weren’t scalable and couldn’t be customised or integrated across the operation
  • Inefficient data handling systems and poor-quality data capture was slowing the business down
  • Manual processes were costing the business time and money
  • Limited remote access and no offline capabilities were causing problems with field service agents which was affecting productivity and creating a barrier to collaboration

The solution_

Following a Business Value Assessment, Infinity Group recommended Dynamics 365 as the foundation for Spy Alarms’ digital transformation. The platform provided a scalable, future-ready solution capable of supporting the company’s rapid growth while replacing outdated systems and manual processes. Dynamics 365 Field Service introduced intelligent scheduling through Resource Scheduling Optimisation (RSO), helping automate maintenance bookings and giving engineers access to the information, catalogues and pricing they needed to work more efficiently in the field.

To streamline operations, Infinity combined Dynamics 365 with Power Platform to automate key processes across the business. Approvals, notifications, billing activities and document verification were digitised using Power Automate and integrated solutions. Automated pricing updates from Spy Alarms’ main distributor further reduced manual administration, helping teams spend less time on repetitive tasks and more time delivering value to customers.

The solution was designed with long-term growth in mind. Enhanced reporting and analytics were delivered through Azure Synapse Analytics and Power BI, providing greater visibility across the organisation, while integrations across sales, marketing and customer service created a more connected operation. A robust data model and templated migration approach also ensured Spy Alarms could continue its acquisition strategy with confidence, supported by a technology platform built to scale alongside the business.

The second tick on my list was when I met the team, clearly showing knowledge of the product and just a general understanding of my requirements.

The Infinity Group approach_

Infinity Group’s approach began with people. Before any technology was implemented, we worked closely with stakeholders across the business to understand existing challenges, future ambitions and the day-to-day realities of different teams. By maintaining regular communication throughout the project, we ensured key decision-makers remained informed, engaged and aligned at every stage of the transformation

To balance flexibility with long-term strategic objectives, we combined Agile and Waterfall delivery methodologies. This allowed us to adapt to evolving requirements while maintaining focus on the wider business goals. Throughout the project, we prioritised stakeholder engagement, demonstrating value early and often to encourage adoption and build confidence among executive sponsors and end users alike. We also maximised the use of Microsoft’s out-of-the-box capabilities, ensuring Spy Alarms could benefit from ongoing platform innovation and regular Microsoft updates.

A successful implementation is about more than deploying technology, it’s about ensuring people embrace it. To minimise disruption, the transition to the new platform was completed over a single weekend, enabling teams to begin work as usual on Monday morning. Following go-live, our dedicated Hyper Care programme provided hands-on support for two weeks, quickly resolving issues, supporting user adoption and helping employees build confidence in the new ways of working.

Straight away I could see the differences it was going to make within our service desk, particularly with making sure we had more time with our customers.
