Dynamics 365 Business Central 2022 release Wave 1 updates

The latest 2022 release Wave 1 Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central updates were released on April 1. The release covers important functionalities that kick off from April to September 2022. The updates are to improve the overall user experience across the platform.

What is Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central?

Business Central is a cloud-based business management software which facilitates customers to upgrade from legacy accounting programs to a comprehensive solution for the effective management of finances, sales, customer service and operations. It also offers an avenue for cloud and on-premises solutions for wider teams in an organisation.

The application is used by many businesses to streamline internal processes and works efficiently to promote cross-functional departmental collaboration. Other benefits include financial management streamlining, project management efficiency, supply chain optimisation, project management, increased sales and business intelligence.

Power Platform:

There has been an integration of Microsoft Dataverse and Power Platform to simplify user interaction. With the interconnectivity of Power Apps such as Power Automate and Power BI within Dynamics Business Central, user efficiency and productivity have been streamlined.

The linkage of Dataverse features with the Power Automate function has also smoothened the flow within both software.

Better with Microsoft 365:

Business Central has been incorporated with Excel for more improvement and capabilities. Microsoft have also worked to merge Business Central with other applications such as Teams. This is to improve collaboration and internal processes for users.


Another focus of the 2022 release Wave 1 has been the enhancement of onboarding. Bottlenecks have been removed to enable partners onboard their new customers much easily. This will ensure a seamless experience as new clients are set up on Business Central.

Furthermore, context-specific content has also been available to users to fulfil their unique needs and improve the overall experience during onboarding.


The 2022 release Wave 1 also includes a set of admin guidelines for the improvement of hosting and management of tenants, as well as licensing and permissions. In addition, these are to improve user environments and support.

Country availability:

Dynamics Business Central has expanded and will now be available in more countries and regions. The expansion involves the introduction of about 70 countries having access to the platform.

Improved service:

The enhanced streamlined features will facilitate processes within your wider organisation, therefore making departmental work and collaboration easier.


Other improvements include the enhancement of AL language, which is the programming language for manoeuvring data and records within the Dynamics 365 Business Central database. This update is to optimise developers’ experience when they use the application.

Aspects of Business Central such as supply chain and finance, have undergone some enhancements to accelerate internal processes and user optimisation. These are important facets of the application which lead to productivity, efficiency and service delivery.


Insight gathering and reporting is crucial in the identification of growth opportunities, within the wider business sphere. Microsoft is poised to delivering an improved experience with Excel layouts and account schedules. Power BI analytics will also be shown on top of the Business Central homepage to improve accounting and dashboard navigation.

Service and platform:

Small and medium-scale business owners now have access to an in-product performance advisor and in-client performance profiler, for increased insight within the platform. Client rendering time and data entry performance have also been introduced to improve user experience.
